6 DAYS MARANGU ROUTE

The Marangu Route, often referred to as the ‘Coca Cola’ route, is used for both ascending and descending, featuring huts at three stations: Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo. Despite its reputation suggesting ease, it is no simpler than other routes and requires a minimum of five days to complete. The misconception of its simplicity arises from the availability of hut accommodations instead of tents. An optional acclimatization day at Horombo Huts is recommended for those without prior high-altitude trekking experience. To avoid inconveniences, advance booking of hut accommodation is essential. Starting from the park headquarters in Marangu village, the trail heads westward towards Kibo, traversing lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and ultimately the arctic zone at the peak, following the same route on the descent.

7 DAYS MACHAME ROUTE

The Machame Route is renowned for its challenging yet stunning ascent on Kilimanjaro, offering climbers a choice between a six or seven-day trek. This route is often preferred by those seeking a diverse hiking experience through varied landscapes, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts, before culminating at the breathtaking Uhuru Peak.

9 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE

This route ascends the western side of the mountain and consists of six stations, starting at Mti Mkubwa and joining the Londorosi route at Shira I. We traverse the Shira Plateau, employing a strategy of climbing high and sleeping low to facilitate acclimatization and improve summit chances. We recommend a minimum of 7 days for this route, though 8 days is preferable for better acclimatization and summit success. The Lemosho route merges with the Machame route at Shira 2 Camp, then follows the southern circuit before descending at Mweka Gate.

8 DAYS RONGAI ROUTE

The Rongai Route is an ascending path offering climbers the option of four or five stations, depending on their preference. The four-station option includes Simba Camp, Second Cave, Third Cave, and School Hut, while the five-station option adds Kikelelwa and Mawenzi Tarn Hut. Climbers who ascend via this route will descend via the Marangu Route. Unique among Kilimanjaro routes, Rongai is the sole approach from the north, starting near the Tanzania-Kenya border. Ideal for those seeking a quieter, more remote trek, Rongai boasts lower traffic and provides a distinct perspective of the mountain as you conquer it from the northern side.
