HADZABE

They are a very small tribe with simple dwellings and many live in the caves around Lake Eyasi near the Serengeti. The Hadzabe are a small hunter-gatherer tribe, one the world’s last remaining of its kind with their language consisting of the clicking sound. Most of their mornings start with hunting and foraging whereby the men typically hunt for meat and honey while the women and children gather fruit, berries, and roots.

MAASAI

The Maasai is the most internationally recognized of Tanzania’s tribes walking with their red cloaks and long sticks. They always live in close harmony with the land, and the wildlife that shares their home. Their nomadic pastoralist lifestyle, distinctive attire, and close relationship with the land make them a living symbol of cultural endurance. You’ll likely interact with Maasai around the major national parks such as Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.

DATOGA

Datoga people are a nomadic Nilotic-speaking tribe in the vicinity of Lake Eyasi in the Northern Tanzania. They are skilled craftsmen, farmers and blacksmiths, believed to have originated from Southern Sudan and Western Ethiopian. Their cultural identity is their decorative tattooing marks on their face and shoulders, and elongated ear lobes. These markings are deep in the skin and used for identifying their people.
